Four tills. Endless shopping. One very unusual problem: the tills can't add up!

Welcome to CHECKOUT, a fast-paced supermarket arcade game for the ZX Spectrum Next where remembering prices is the difference between making money and losing it.

Shoppers arrive with baskets full of goods, queue at the shortest checkout and load their shopping onto the moving belt. Your job is to scan every item, remember its price, and calculate the final bill — all while the next shopper is already getting ready!

Scan It. Remember It. Get It Right.

1. Scan the shopping. Press fire as each item reaches your scanner. Its price flashes up briefly on the green till display. Look carefully — once it disappears, you'll need to remember it!

2. Calculate the total. When the shopper finishes, three possible totals appear. Choose the one you think is right and confirm your answer.

3. Make money or lose it. Get the total right and earn your share of the bill, plus a tip for answering quickly. Get it wrong — or take too long — and lose $5.

Meanwhile, the next shopper is already loading the belt. Keep scanning!

The Rush Gets Tougher

As the three-minute shift progresses, shoppers arrive more frequently, baskets grow to as many as seven items, and prices increase. Your memory, mental arithmetic and reflexes will all be put to the test.

Four Checkouts. Up to Four Players.

Choose one to four human cashiers. Each player operates a different checkout, while computer-controlled cashiers fill any vacant positions.

The computer gets roughly four out of five totals right, so there's plenty of competition even when you're playing alone.

At closing time, the cashiers are ranked by their takings, with correct and incorrect totals revealed. Can you become the supermarket's top cashier?
